Wren Kitchens' 3D kitchen planner was used daily by Kitchen Sales Designers working directly alongside customers across 119 showrooms. The interface was cluttered, its iconography unclear, and key features were effectively hidden. Every minute lost to tooling friction was a minute not spent selling.
I mapped workflow pain points through stakeholder interviews, Jobs-to-Be-Done analysis and usability testing on the live planner. Users weren't asking for more capability; they wanted to stop fighting the interface to access what was already there. I redesigned the experience through iterative wireframing and prototyping, built a custom icon set, and validated changes through moderated and unmoderated usability testing.
Average time-on-task dropped from 33 seconds to 14 seconds, a 58% reduction measured through prototype testing
Improved discoverability, reduced dependence on trial-and-error learning, and eased onboarding
AA accessibility compliance was achieved through improved contrast and typography
A modular UI structure gave Wren a scalable foundation for future features without major retraining
