1 Product Owner · 2 Full Stack Developers
Pikl was an insurtech startup scaling a white-label insurance platform with a small cross-functional team and no centralised design system. Inconsistent components, mismatched patterns and fragmented handoffs were slowing delivery and making every update harder than it needed to be. I owned the project end to end, working with one product owner and two full-stack developers.
I designed a modular design system from scratch, building flexible "slot components" that kept structural consistency intact while adapting to different product and partner contexts. I standardised documentation and handoff workflows through Zeplin and Storybook, secured stakeholder buy-in at each stage, and built the system to support white-label customisation without rebuilding from scratch for each partner.
Design-to-development time reduced by 25% through standardised components and cleaner, more reliable handoffs
Design updates became a fraction of the previous effort, with one senior engineer noting components were now immediately accessible without navigating large Figma boards
The modular system gave Pikl a scalable foundation for future products and insurance partner customisation
